Comedian Kerry Godliman is bemoaning the state of the modern day social media-obsessed culture.

"When it all started it was intoxicating but it’s like eating s**t food - after a while you start malfunctioning," quips the Derek actress. "It’s insane. When you’re taking pictures of a meal and putting it on the internet you think - is all this science for this?"

Greenford-born Kerry is not just having a rant, she's explaining what is influencing her stand-up material right now.

"I have been thinking about stuff because on the internet we are always so naval gazing now, the internet is one massive mirror," reflects the West Norwood resident, who is also preparing for her 2016 tour.

From an early age Kerry knew she wanted to act. She steadily built her career, gaining a host of acting credits in sitcoms and films including Channel 4's Spoons and BBC 1's Our Girl. And in 2011 she enjoyed rave reviews of her Wonder Woman show at the Edinburgh Festival.

A year later, the mother-of-two began filming Derek, Ricky Gervais' mockumentary-style series set in a retirement home.

"It was really lovely, a really lovely job, really nice people," remembers Kerry, who played care home worker Hannah. "Ricky was very playful and very nice to work for."

But comedy is arguably her first love. "I just enjoy making people laugh," she says.

Kerry will be performing alongside Frankie Boyle, Shappi Khorsandi, Doc Brown, Andrew Maxwell and Grainne Macguire at the Stand Up for Satire event hosted by Al Murray at Union Chapel, Upper Street, Islington on Thursday, July 30. Details: 020 7226 3750, unionchapel.org.uk
