POLICE are investigating after the head of a tombstone was knocked off in an Enfield cemetery, exposing a skeleton.
The grave at Hertford Road Cemetery is believed to have been damaged early this morning or late last night, causing a decorative part of the large tombstone to fall and crack the ground below, exposing the bones.
The body is likely to have been buried around 100 years old, as the grave holds the remains of George Dilley Young, who died in 1878, and his wife Eliza Hawkins, who died in 1926.
The remains have now been covered with soil by Enfield Police officers, who have wrapped police tape around the tomb.
Both Enfield Police and the nearby St James' Church were not available for comment.
