A NEGLECTED corner of Palmers Green will be revitalised as part of a community project this weekend.

Enfield councillor, Alan Sitkin, has gathered residents, police, parks outreach, the mayor, scouts groups and other children to muck in on Sunday and clear the overgrown area in Tile Kiln Lane.

It will then be transformed into an urban garden for residents and young people to enjoy.

Cllr Sitkin, who represents the Bowes ward, said: "The Tile Kiln project - the brainchild of police community safety officer (PCSO) Sam Kifford with strong support from me - aims to improve the physical environment of residents in a part of the ward that has little access to green space .

"It goes above and beyond its role as a pilot ecological initiative, it also speaks to a social justice agenda. Plans are also afoot to use the garden to host schoolchildren and strengthen their sustainability curriculum. In short, this is a really good thing for lots of people."

The volunteers will spend the day, from 10am to 3.30pm, clearing down years of overgrown vegetation at Tile Kiln Lane near Oakthorpe School, in The Strays.

Over the coming months, potential garden designs will be compiled and a consultation will be opened so people can have their say for their vision for the Tile Kiln's future.

Volunteers who have a few spare hours are urged to come along on Sunday, November 28, to help clear bushes, mow grass and chop wood.
