EVERY school in Enfield has met new Government GCSE performance targets, according to recently-published achievement tables.
Education secretary Michael Gove revealed last year that schools where fewer than 35 per cent of pupils left school with five or more A* to C GCSEs, including English and maths, would be considered as "under-achieving".
The five per cent rise from the 30 per cent target proposed by the previous Labour Government, places schools and local authorities under increased pressure to meet the guidelines or risk being shut down.
In Enfield however, all secondary schools met the grade with Oasis Academy Hadley, in Bell Lane, previously The Albany School that closed in July 2009, just scraping the required 35 per cent.
Schools including Alyward School and Turin Grove, which fell below the target, were both reopened as academies last September.
Councillor Ayfer Orhan, cabinet member for schools and children’s services, said: "These results demonstrate our schools are working exceptionally hard and encouraging a positive approach to national examinations.
"This is important, not only for the young people and their futures, but also for society as a whole."
The tables show Enfield pupils achieved better grades than last year and, collectively, achieved better than the national average of 53.8 per cent, with 56.1 per cent of all pupils gaining the necessary qualifications.
Enfield's top performing schools were The Latymer School, in Haslebury Road, Palmers Green High School, in Hoppers Road, and St Johns Prep School, in The Ridgeway, Potters Bar, where all pupils achieved the Goverment's target.
Broomfield headteacher Angus Walker, also chairman of Enfield's secondary school heads association, said: "We are all proud of our students and delighted with their results. Each year we build on past success and this is a trend that we want to continue.
"Our pupils recognise the importance of their studies and they are doing extremely well. Congratulations to all of them."
