RIOT police have arrived in Enfield Town as small groups of hooded youngsters arrive in cars and on buses and trains.
After messages on social networking sites Twitter and Facebook that rioting that started in Tottenham would spread to Enfield at 4pm, there is no large-scale disorder, but police are using stop-and-search powers on people arriving in the area.
Around 100 people are waiting in small groups of four or five around Enfield Town Station in Southbury Road, as police in riot vans continue to arrive.
A spokesman for Enfield Town's businesses said that after warning spread on Twitter and by text message, they told shops and pubs to close down at around 3pm, although some fast-food restaurants remain open.
The Enfield Independent saw a group of teenagers being arrested by officers.
Police helicopters continue to hover over the area.
