This trailer gives the first look at Highgate actress Rebecca Root starring in BBC Two's new sitcom Boy Meets Girl.
It focuses on the romance between transgender woman Judy, played by Rebecca, and younger man Leo, played by Harry Hepple.
Rebecca was born male but underwent surgery in 2005 to become a woman.
The 45-year-old, who moved to London aged 18 to study drama at Mountview Academy in Wood Green, worked as an actor before and after her transition and also works as a voice coach, specialising in helping transgender people.
She says of starring in Boy Meets Girl: “Hopefully it is the chance of a lifetime and will put me on the map,“ she says. “I always felt I have been difficult to cast because I’m trans, and I hope this will lead to more parts.“
She also has a small role in upcoming film The Danish Girl in which Eddie Redmayne stars as transgender pioneer Einar Wegener.
