More than 150 people from different nationalities came together in Palmers Green yesterday to enjoy a multicultural festival.
The annual event, organised by Asian support group Naree Shakti, encourages people to celebrate festivals associated with different cultures at one party.
The four-hour festival, which raised money for the charity through ticket sales, was held in Trinity-at-Bowes Methodist Church in Palmerston Road in Palmers Green from 1pm.
President of the charity, Vijay Rattan, said: "The music was fantastic and the people were dancing until 5pm. They were enjoying it. We hope events like this will help to educate people how to live together.
“We would like all people to celebrate all together. This is a festival season and we celebrate all events like Christmas and Diwali.”
The Mayor of Enfield, Councillor Kate Anolue, attended to show her support for the charity’s work.
People enjoyed a vegetarian lunch as well as performances from singers Uma and Sailesh.
Ms Rattan said people often ask the charity to organise more frequent multicultural events and she is working to create a new festival during the summer next year.
Naree Shakti, which means women’s strength, was set up to specifically help Asian women cope with issues including forced marriage and domestic violence.
However, women from all nationalities are welcome to join the group, which meets in Bowes Lane, Palmers Green.
