The grieving wife of a murdered gang boss said that the hitman showed ‘no remorse’.
Zafer Eren, 34, of Fontaine Court, Southgate, was murdered by Jamie Marsh-Smith, 23 outside his home in April 2013, and has been sentenced to 38 years in prison.
His getaway driver Samuel Zerei, 21 of, Hathersage Court, in Newington Green, was also found guilty of murder and was sentenced to 28 years behind bars.
Following the sentencing, Mr Eren’s grieving wife said: "This has had a devastating impact on our life; our baby was only 26 days old when Zafer was killed on my doorstep. Marsh-Smith and Zerei have shown no remorse for their actions."
Marsh-Smith’s half brother, Wayne McNeish, was also jailed for four-and-a-half years for perverting the course of justice by helping Marsh-Smith evade the police.
Marsh-Smith was ordered to kill Mr Eren, a member of the Tottenham Turks (aka Tottenham Boys) by the Hackney Turks (aka Bombacilars), following a long running feud between the gangs.
During the sentencing today at the Old Bailey, in London, Judge John Bevan QC described the bitter long standing feud as “fighting a medieval turf war” and that the feud was “intolerable and unacceptable.”
When sentencing Marsh-Smith, Judge Bevan added: “You are a callous and highly dangerous young man and you are prepared to kill for what I suspect is a modest fee.”
The jury failed to reach verdicts on two further defendants accused of the attempted murder of Inan Eren. Christopher Annan, 23, and Tyrone Wright, 19, await a decision on whether they will face a retrial.
