Councillor Patricia Ekechi said she was “honoured” to become Mayor of Enfield.
In a council chamber packed with dignitaries and family friends, Councillor Ali Bakir handed over his Mayoral duties to the Upper Edmonton councillor and former Deputy Mayor.
Jubilee ward councillor Bernie Lappage was officially appointed Deputy Mayor.
The new Mayor of Enfield told the chamber, who has lived in Enfield for more than 37 years, said people had travelled from Nigeria and Florida to see her being elected.
She said: “I am honoured to be taking up the position and serve a borough I have lived in for 37 years.
“I will be the Mayor for the people.”
The new cabinet was also officially announced after cabinet member for environment Councillor Chris Bond was deselected.
Cllr Daniel Anderson will be taking his place with Cllr Alev Cazimoglu replacing Cllr Don McGowan for health and social care.
Cllr Nneka Keazor takes over the role of public health and sport cabinet member after the resignation of Rohini Simbodyal earlier this year.
There was not to be any treats for the councillors this year following Cllr Bakir’s gesture 12 months ago with each councillor getting a goody bag.
