A man who sold unclassified hardcore porn films has been fined more than £5,000 and ordered to wear an electronic tag.

Colin Lane, 53, of Eagle Close, Enfield, pleaded guilty to 12 offences at Tottenham Magistrates Court (pictured) on March 17.

He has also been placed under curfew from 8pm to 8am Friday to Sunday, for eight weeks starting from March 18.

On January 9, 2015, the council’s trading standards team received an email from a member of the public, alleging an eBay seller, Taboo Films, based in Enfield, was selling unclassified adult films.

Two videos were test purchased, and the British Board Film Classification (BBFC) confirmed they were not classified.

Officers from the council raided the home of Mr Lane on March 24, 2015, who was making DVD compilations of the films at the time.

Computer equipment used to copy pornographic films were seized, plus approximately 100 film reels and 400 DVDs.

Enfield Council’s cabinet member for environment Cllr Daniel Anderson said: “Though we're not prudes, there are strict laws governing the copying of all types of films for commercial gain and it’s illegal to sell any film, including those containing pornographic material, if they don’t have a BBFC classification.

“Although it’s fairly obvious we are not talking about episodes of ‘In The Night Garden’ or ‘Mr Tumble’ here, there is a fundamental concern that we do not want young people watching films of an adult nature when it may not be completely clear from the titles what the films show, so we had to take action.”
