A CHARITY has raised cash for a Christian agency by organising a special curry night celebrating Indian cuisine.
More than 100 members of Our Lady of Mount Carmel and St George Church, in Enfield, helped raise £1,000 in a celebration of the food heritage of Kerala for Catholic Agency For Overseas Development (CAFOD).
Volunteers from the Enfield Malayalee Association UK (ENMA) prepared the authentic three-course Indian meal.
Traditional food lovingly prepared included butter chicken, matter paneer, onion bhaji, samosas and payasam.
Event organiser, Beena George, said: “We got to know CAFOD at church and started to get involved in local events, such as the Fairtrade Fayre.
“We like the work CAFOD does overseas supporting those in need, especially the fact they help no matter what faith individuals are.
“We really enjoyed the curry fundraiser for CAFOD, which was an amazing success.
“In addition to raising money, we felt it brought the whole community together.
“There was a real feeling of togetherness.”
Enfield CAFOD representative, Tony Sheen, gave a short presentation on the importance of the cash raised.
He explained the money would go towards helping those living in extreme poverty, regardless of race, religion or culture.
Mr Sheen, said: “A huge thanks to the lovely people from the ENMA for raising such a great amount for CAFOD and for the delicious curry.”
