Beer and cider enthusiasts will be excited to hear about a new festival which will be sweeping Wetherspoons pubs across Enfield.
The World's Biggest Real-Ale and Cider Festival will showcase up to 25 real ales and five ciders from the UK and overseas over 12 days, which will be available to try for £2.19 a pint across the pubs.
The beers have been sourced from brewers in Greece, Italy, Australia, Canada, USA and the Republic of Ireland, and a cider from Northern Ireland, which, along with the UK beers, will satisfy a range of tastes and perfectly match food or be well paired with a good football match.
Here are some tasting notes to help you make the perfect choice of cider or beer.
Snails Bank Rhubarb (Herefordshire, England)
This cider is a medium real apple cider infused with rhubarb to give a sharpness which is tempered by the blend of vanilla. The resulting taste is smooth and complex.
Purity Warlord (Warwickshire, England)
The amber beer, which was brewed especially for this real-ale festival, if full of the aromas of tropical fruits, as well as grapefruit. The scents of pine also aid the full and complex flavour while adding a lasting bitterness. The hoppy tastes of Chinook, Galaxy, Pilgrim and Simcoe are also prominent.
Green Beacon 3 Bolt Pale Ale (Brisbane, Australia)
The first of the international beers, this is another golder liquor specially brewed for the festival.
Green Beacon's Johann van der Walt travelled to Wadworth Brewery in Wiltshire to recreate the pale ale with citrus, mango and pine notes in both aroma and flavour. This pale ale is refreshing but the additional bitterness creates a balance with the flavour of Cascade, Columbus, Galaxy and Mosaic hops.
Broadoak Moonshine (Somerset, UK)
This medium-sweet cider has a refreshing fruity flavour coming from the mix of dessert and cooking apples. It is incredibly drinkable with a crisp and light taste, despite being the strongest cider at the festival.
Grapes and Gratification: Old World New England IPA (Heraklion, Crete)
Kjetil Jikiun from Grapes and Gratification travelled to Banks's Brewery in the West Midlands for inspiration when to brew this festival-special. It is hoppy and fruity with tropical and citrus fruits in the foreground in both taste and aroma. There is also a slight bitter twist to offset the sweetness and malty base from the Galaxy and Nelson Sauvin hops.
The festival will run from March 14 to March 25 in Wetherspoons pubs across Enfield.
