Taking on Britain by bike at 70, Larry Lamb shares his top tips to live to the ripe age of 100 ...
He survived the Jungle on I’m a Celeb and now much-loved actor Larry Lamb, 70, is ready for a fresh challenge – taking on Britain by Bike. With no plans to slow down, Larry shares his top tips for living life to the full at 70.
Tip 1. Revise your exercise
I turn 71 this year but I certainly don’t feel it! I make a conscious effort to keep physically fit, enjoying your exercise makes a lot of difference. Along with walking which I love, I’ve also caught the cycling bug. Cycling is great, as not only do you get to see beautiful scenery but it’s also an exercise which is easy on my joints. Plus, it’s a great family exercise, filming the new series of Britain by Bike with my son George (38) has been a great bonding experience for both of us and I have to say… he kept up with me fairly well!
Tip 2. Appreciate the now
Being proactive is a huge part of my life, I love being busy and on the go. I make exercise a part of my daily routine to help me stay active – too many people make excuses about exercise, but there’s always a way to fit it in. The same goes for your health, if you’re having problems get it looked into and get it sorted. It’s all about discipline. If you don’t take charge it’ll crumble away.
Tip 3. Be proactive on pain
My hip and knee pain was bad up until a couple of years ago, I’d tried loads of different things then after hearing a glowing report from Arlene Phillips I started taking GOPO Joint Health - and it’s been brilliant. I couldn’t have imagined a couple of years ago that I’d be able to cycle Britain by Bike…. twice (!) or that I’d be able to go on I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here, because my joint pain use to be so bad.
Tip 4. Have your cake and eat it
It’s all about the balance, go for everything in moderation I don’t believe in fad diets – if you want some cake - have it, just not the whole thing! Eating healthily is important at every age, and you can still enjoy meals, I just make sure I have a good balance in what I’m eating, I eat lots of fruit and veg and make a conscious effort to keep up the exercise.
