EDMONTON-born golf ace Thomas Fernandes claimed a superb third place in the Leicestershire Fox.
Middlesex County and Sudbury Golf Club member Thomas mastered difficult, windy conditions at Willesley Park Golf Club, at Ashby-de-la-Zouch, to takle overall third place with a total score of 143.
He shot rounds of 70 and 73 in the Midlands Order of Merit event to finish three over par.
Thomas' driver was awesome missing just six fairways in two rounds, but the real success came in his short game.
With smaller greens and tight pin positions, he scrambled ten out of 12 par saves in the morning round and six out of nine in the afternoon.
Since then, Thomas has returned to Bethany College in Lindsborg, Kansas, for his sophomore year.
In his freshman year, Thomas shot level par scores of 70/71 and helped Bethany College to the Fall Invitational Trophy.
He maintained a 100 per cent record in team qualifying and helped Bethany College to the regionals finals.
Thomas is majoring in sports science and welfare at the American college and also looking to further his golfing ambitions.
And he is not the only keen golfer in the family, as younger brother John, 15, plays for Enfield Golf Club.
Father Angelo is looking for help in any way to further Thomas' golfing career, and anyone interested should call 07886 587408 or email angelodafernandes@ hotmail.com
