A NEW film devoted to the cultural changes and development in Tottenham is currently underway.
‘A Tottenham Tale’ directed by local filmmaker Sean Reilly is set to explore life in Tottenham and how following the London riots in 2011, the area has increasingly grown as a creative hub and night-out destination with an increase of bars, clubs and restaurants.
Gentrification is a central theme to the project, as it weights the pros and cons of the ever-changing atmosphere in the area and gives voice to different people and how their lives have developed along with the area.
The feature-length documentary is still in production at the moment and a release date and platform to view the project is yet to be announced.
Talking about why he wished to base the documentary in Tottenham, Sean Reilly said: “I was born and raised in Tottenham, for me it’s an exciting time in Tottenham’s history post-riot, the social issues, the crime, the people, the schools, the club, pubs, churches.
“There’s a real mix of different languages spoken in the area, it’s really diverse. It’s an exciting time in Tottenham’s history and the story needs to be told.”
In order to touch on the theme of gentrification and the changes in Tottenham, the documentary follows various “ordinary people with extraordinary lives”.
This includes a local rapper who was recently signed to a music label, the story of an up-and-coming boxer, a burlesque dancer and the love story of two drug addicts who have been together for ten years and their struggle - along with other special guests.
