Schoolchildren at a school in Winchmore Hill have received a visit by acclaimed doctor and scientist Professor Lord Robert Winston.
Lord Winston, who is a Professor of Science and Society at Imperial College London, addressed the pupils at Keble Preparatory School on February 4.
He chatted with the children about his own experiences in the field and took a range of questions on a variety of topics such as ethics in science and the pursuit of perfection.
The pupils learns about the innovative work of Lord Winston, including his treatments to improve in vitro fertilisation (IVF) and pre-implantation diagnosis.
The scientist, who has appeared on countless television shows, has worked with colleagues to improve fertility treatments and screen embryos to help parents carrying faulty genes to have healthy babies.
Keble Prep head master Perran Gill said: "It is wonderful that someone with so many amazing achievements freely gives up their time to inspire our boys, which is remarkable and humbling."
Lord Winston told pupils: "I visit schools because you are the future of our society. It’s important you understand your responsibility and the need for an ethical attitude to science....I want to come back again. I visit a lot of schools and I think Keble students scored very highly - they asked a lot of good questions.
"he teachers here can be proud of their students - and of course the students of their teachers: it's a two-way situation after-all."
