Around 60 firefighters tackled “a very intense fire” in Tottenham on Friday evening (February 17).
The London Fire Brigade (LFB) was called to the sixth-floor flat fire in Northumberland Park at 6.20pm and it was extinguished by 8.11pm.
Half of a five-roomed flat was destroyed in the blaze and firefighters wearing breathing apparatus led a woman to safety via an internal staircase. The woman was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation.
Two other people left the affected flat before the Brigade arrived.
The Brigade warned residents in the vicinity of the fire to close their windows and doors from the smoke.
Station Commander Chris Kendall, who was at the scene, said: "Firefighters worked hard in hot, challenging conditions to tackle a very intense fire.
"Due to heavy congestion, we urged people to avoid the area.
"The blaze was producing smoke and we advised those in the vicinity to close their windows and doors.
"One of the Brigade's 32-metre turntable ladders was used at the scene as an observation platform and as a water tower."
LFB crews in eight fire engines from Tottenham, Edmonton, Holloway and surrounding fire stations attended the scene.
The Brigade said that the cause of the fire is under investigation.
