A playground designed by the mums and dads of the children using it is now complete.
Children from toddlers to 12-year-olds now have their own ‘go to’ safe outdoor space on Tottenham’s Love Lane Estate with their own swings, slides and climbing equipment on child-friendly soft ground.
The redevelopment, off High Road, includes 500 new council homes, small businesses and a public library learning centre.
Their priority was first getting a safe play area away from traffic.
The parents did not wait for the work to be finished while their children had nowhere to play.
A residents’ ‘design group’ looked at different playgrounds in north London and told Haringey Council what was best for Love Lane.
“The new play area has been a top priority for the families,” Cllr Ruth Gordon admitted. “This has been a project for the community by the community.”
The estate’s residents’ association even helped the council choose the right contractor for the work.
