A huge waste fire has shut a road and caused traffic chaos, forcing nearby residents to close their windows due to heavy smoke.
London Fire Brigade responded to a large blaze in which about 500 tonnes of waste was alight in Nobel Road, Edmonton, early this morning.
The fire at the waste and recycling centre caused chaos on the A1055, resulting in Nobel Road closing between Thornton Road and Kynoch Road.
Given the extent of the fire, firefighters remain at the scene, having been called at 3.33am today (June 12).
It took hours to put out the blaze, which was under control at 7.51am.
People in the area were told to keep their doors and windows shut as crews from Edmonton, Enfield, Chingford worked at the scene.
Despite a large amount of smoke, there were no reports of any injuries.
The cause of the fire is not yet known, LFB added.
