An unlicensed driver who tried to drive the wrong way down a dual carriageway during a police chase has been jailed.
Amer Jahangeer, 33, of Empire Avenue, Tottenham, was seen driving an Audi without insurance or a licence in St Neots, Cambridgeshire, at 3am on January 12.
When officers tried to stop him at a traffic lights he sped off, hitting 68mph while ignoring roundabouts and keep left signs.
In a desperate big to escape a police sting, Jahangeer drove onto the southbound entry slip-road for the A1 then tried to drive against traffic.
However, police made tactical contact with his car to stop it and Jahangeer was arrested.
Sergeant Mark Atkins, from Cambridgeshire Police’s road unit, said: “Jahangeer’s driving was ridiculous, when all he needed to do was pull over when requested to do so. He could have avoided a custodial sentence and not endangered other motorists.
"Fortunately, the officers acted swiftly to bring the pursuit to a safe conclusion."
Last Friday (September 27) Jahangeer was jailed for one year after he pleaded guilty to dangerous driving.
He was also banned from driving for four years and six months.
If he wishes to drive again after that he must pass an extended retest.
