HUNDREDS of Enfield youngsters will this week take part in a mini Olympics in a bid to encourage children to take part in more sport.
A smaller version of the London 2012 Olympic Games, entitled Go Enfield Go, will be held on Thursday at the Lee Valley athletics stadium.
“This is a wonderful opportunity for our children to come together and enjoy an afternoon of sport and fun where they can get a taste of sport in a grand, modern area,” said Councillor Jon Kaye, cabinet member for leisure, arts, culture and Olympics.
“It is a great credit to our sport that they have planned such a lively event with something for all abilities and ages.
"We are fortunate to have a world class local stadium to stage this event an I am delighted that we can make such good use of it."
There will be many fun activities, such as trampolining, archery, judo, table tennis, goal ball, cup stacking, boccia, fencing, wheelchair basketball, football challenges and cheerleading.
“We have also created an international dimension to this event.
"Every school will represent a country with a colourful torch relay starting the event.
"This will be swiftly followed by a mass aerobic warm up,” said Jan Hickman, sports development manager.
The event will start at 12.30pm and will include a mass aerobic workout, dance performances, and a medal ceremony before coming to an end at 4.30pm.
