So, Councillor Achilleas Georgiou thinks Enfield Homes, the body now responsible for the borough’s social housing stock, should have been set up six months earlier.
What he doesn’t tell you was that it was his Labour Government that delayed its launch by not coming up with the money when it implied it would.
As a former member of the shadow board of Enfield Homes, I well remember the disappointment at the time from all of the directors (Conservative and Labour councillors, tenants, leaseholders and independent representatives) that the Government dragged its heels for several months before it eventually went ahead with the project.
I can’t recall Councillor Georgiou, the chairman of the housing scrutiny panel at the time, firing off a letter to his Labour pals in the department of communities and local government, pressing them to move forward more quickly.
I wonder why?
COUNCILLOR JON KAYE, former vice chairman, housing scrutiny panel, Enfield Council
