PERFECT your flower-arranging skills and learn how to make your garden a crime-free zone at Capel Manor College’s free open day tomorrow.
The college, in Bullsmoor Lane, is giving visitors the opportunity to see a cottage garden that won an award at this year’s Chelsea Flower Show.
Two gardens designed by students will also be on show, the Secure by Design garden, which aims to prevent crime, and the Outdoor Classroom Garden, for outdoor learning. Both were devised by Capel Manor students.
The crime prevention garden featured high garden gates, with heavy-duty hinges, and a padlock, making sure trellis isn't easily accessible and planting prickly shrubs or trees.
The college is also host to one of the eight heats for the World Skills UK Floristry Competition and the public can watch florists at work.
Other events include, a dog show, planting in recycled containers, ferret racing and saddlery displays where visitors can have a go a braiding a leather bracelet.
Capel Manor College is London's only college that specialises in floristry and horticulture, will be showing demonstrations and displays from all of its departments through the open day.
The event will be held from 10am to 5pm. Non-Enfield residents can gain free entry by obtaining vouchers from http://www.capel.ac.uk/openday/ or by calling 08456 122122.
