THE number of people injured in motorcycle accidents in Enfield has fallen by 31 per cent, new figures have revealed.

There were 68 accidents reported by those riding motorbikes and scooters in 2008.

Motorcycle accidents accounted for 15 per cent of all road crashes in London last year.

However, Enfield is one of the safer London boroughs to travel in on two wheels - only four of the 32 boroughs had fewer accidents.

Westminister is the most dangerous borough for bikers and scooter riders, with 306 casualties there last year.

Lambeth at 248 and Wandsworth at 224 also scored highly.

The figures have been released by the Metropolitan Police ahead of a free motorcycle safety event this weekend at the police training centre in Aerodrome Road, Hendon.

The largest show of its kind is being held after a rise in accidents in London by people on motorcycles, mopeds and scooters.

Chief Inspector Dave McLaren from the Met's traffic unit said although casualties had fallen, fatalaties were rising.

"With summer approaching and more motorcyclists likely to be out enjoying the longer and warmer evenings, it is more important than ever that riders are at the top of their game and ensure they have done as much as possible to remain safe on the roads," he said.

Visitors can get advice on staying safe and also benefit from a personal riding and bike assesment.

The show is taking place tomorrow and Sunday between 10am and 5pm.
