IT does not matter if it rains this summer for youngsters who take part in the Summer Uni Enfield.

More than 130 activities will be available for secondary school age pupils at locations around the borough, starting July 27.

Instead of subjects like maths, English and history, these students can study courses in circus theatre, graffiti art, Bollywood dance, beauty, sports and digital media and more.

There are over 1200 course places in all.

Registration opens this afternoon with a special launch event featuring music, stalls and fun activities, planned and promoted by the Ponders End Music Project.

Education bosses have planned the Uni with a relaxed approach to learning in mind.

There will be projects and goals but no tests or exams.

Enfield Summer Uni's coordinator, Georgina Englishby, said: “We really have a winning formula this year. Hundreds of young people are booking to enjoy a summer of activity that extends them in every way.”

As well as those who sign up and planned today's event, the council has drafted in 30 'peer motivator' volunteers who will devote 50 hours of their time to tell their friends and classmates about the project and helping out during the Uni.

One, Jordan Okwudi from Lea Valley High School, in Bullsmoor Lane, Enfield, said: “This is an opportunity to get skills for the future. I'm looking forward to it as I want to work in TV.”

The event takes place at Millfield Arts Centre, junction of the North Circular and the A10, between 2pm and 6pm To book a place online go to www.summerunilondon.org or call Georgina Englishby on 020 8886 0518.
