ENTRANCE to Capel Manor Gardens was free to Enfield residents at the weekend and more than 2,000 took up the offer.

The specialist horticultural college showcased its courses and the Enfield Brass Band gave an impressive musical accompaniment for visitors.

Two new gardens were also officially opened by Enfield's mayor, whose Mayor's Day it also was.

The Outdoor Classroom garden, which intends to show how children can learn outdoors and the Crime by Design garden which shows how burglars can be deterred by a good garden design.

Head of college, Madeline Hall, said everyone went home happy.

“I am happy that our staff and their students showed Capel off to such advantage. The enthusiasm was inspirational.”
