A conman who took advantage of unemployed people by charging them a starter fee of £30 for a job that never existed has moved to Enfield.

Ibrahim Shevket, formerly of Queens Road, Bounds Green, used newspaper adverts all over the country to lure jobseekers into paying £30 each to stuff envelopes.

He has since moved to Southgate after being caught but is being closely monitored by Enfield Trading Standards.

Shevkit assured his victims "there was plenty of work" but to discourage timewasters he needed them to send a fee of £30.

He promised it would be refunded after their first job which almost never came.

Those who asked for refunds were either ignored or given excuses and verbal abuse.

Councillor Nilgun Canver, cabinet member for enforcement and safer communities, at Haringey Council, said: "This man has been taking money from people looking for work and is conning some of our most vulnerable people who cannot afford to throw money away."

Haringey Trading Standards intervened on behalf of some consumers to get refunds and investigated alongside the Trading Standards Regional Scambusters who deal with scams which affect consumers over a large area.

Using the Enterprise Act 2002, Ibrahim Shevket, Trading as Top Star Mailshare or IS Trading was been ordered to stop 'breaching his customers' rights by publishing misleading advertisements.

Although Haringey Trading Standards have used the Act before, this case was one of the first in the country to be taken against a 'homeworking' scheme.

A breach of his order could be considered a contempt of court.
