LUNG disease campaigners are asking Enfield PCT to set up a rehabilitation clinic for people in Enfield.
Breathe Easy Enfield says that similar groups, which operate by referral and offer support and exercises to expand and strengthen the lungs, already exist in other boroughs such as Islington.
They say they hope the PCT will soon provide funding for hire of a premises, equipment and trained staff.
The group currently has about 25 members, who suffer from conditions such as lung cancer, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and emphysema, and meets once a month to hear talks from health professionals and provide sufferers with a support network.
Last Thursday June 18, during Breathe Easy Week, they appeared at the market square, Enfield Town with a stall as part of their campaign to raise awareness and gain members.
Pam Blake, whose husband died of COPD, said: "This is something for people with lung conditions - you have lots of cancer groups but but nothing for people with lung conditions. Its a chance to meet people and improves their quality of life."
There are over a hundred and sixty Breathe Easy groups around the UK which form the British Lung Foundation’s support network for people with lung disease.
The group meets in St Michaels Church Hall, Gordon Hill, for more information call Pam Blake on 020 8245 8113
