TWO violent robbers left a 73-year-old woman traumatised after stealing a rare medal from her house.

The woman had been sitting in the study at her home in Vera Avenue, Winchmore Hill, when she heard a knock at her door.

When she opened the door she found a man who claimed to be from the gas board who asked if he could come in to read her meter.

The woman told him that her gas meter was outside and said there was no need for him to come into the house, but the man then said he had to come in to read the electricity meter as well.

Once inside the house, the man told the woman he needed the help of his friend.

The two men then went through the woman’s cupboards and upstairs rooms.

The woman then attempted to make contact with the police when she realised one of the men was holding her handbag.

The two men then violently pushed the woman to the floor and made their escape through the front door.

In the bag was a rare medal given to the woman from the Ukrainian Embassy where she once worked as an interpreter.

Detective Constable Stuart Coleman, from Enfield police’s burglary and robbery squad, said of the incident, on May 12 this year: “This was a very traumatic experience for the victim who is still very shaken following this incident.

“A very rare medal was stolen during the course of this burglary and we are very keen to trace it and to trace those responsible for such a cowardly act.

“So if anyone has been offered this item or has seen it in anyone’s possession, please contact us immediately.”

Both men are white, between 14 and 20-years-old, with short, dark hair and wearing blue denim jeans. One was well-spoken.
