THE FIRST ever parade held solely in support the armed forces was held last weekend.
The Armed Forces Day parade, one of scores across the country, began at the Royal British Legion's Enfield headquarters, in Holtwhites Hill on June 28.
Enfield Council had erected a special Armed Forces Day flag which was presented to a veteran during the march.
Council leader Mike Rye has urged all residents to show “gratitude and respect” for the forces by supporting the event.
He said: "This is the first ever Armed Forces Day parade. It will be a special day for some special people who are the pride of our country.
“Their dedication, professionalism and courage serving our nation and defending our freedom is inspiring and should be celebrated.”
The parade, which was organised by the Royal British Legion, featured a march by veterans, local scouts, cadets and Boys Brigade members through Chase Side, Windmill Hill and Church Street.
Mayor Eleftherios Savva and others made a salute as the parade passed the market square to the Civic Centre, in Silver Street.
