It is all very laudable of MP Joan Ryan to urge the change of name from Council Tax Benefit to Council Tax Rebate (‘Call for name change to benefit all pensioners,’ Enfield Independent, June 10).
However, despite my efforts to get an answer from this Government, no one is prepared to rectify the glowingly unfair system that is the council tax.
When it was first introduced, we were told it was based on two people living at the address but, one person living on their own only has a discount of 25 per cent.
I know education standards have fallen, yet I’m sure half of a whole bill should only be 50 per cent. Will Joan be campaigning for this to be resolved?
