PARK yourself in some lush surroundings this summer; there’s a host of open air events to enjoy.
The Lee Valley Park, which stretches through Edmonton on a 26-mile sweep from Hertfordshire to the docklands, will hold a variety of different events as part of Love Parks Week.
The week opens on Saturday 25 when people are invited to a guided walk from a senior gardener at Myddelton House, Enfield from 1 to 3pm.
The gardens feature many rare award winning plants, including bearded Iris, assembled by its former owner, plant collector EA Bowles.
Kids aged 8 to 15 can have coaching sessions in a range of athletics skills from hurdles to high jump.
Sessions start on Monday 27 to Friday 31, at the Lee Valley Athletics Centre in Picketts Lock.
A 60-mile London to Cambridge Bike Ride has also been organised from the centre on Sunday 26 07.30am. Tickets £16. See www.bike-events.com.
All above events must be booked in advance.
An arts day, with sculpture-building and youth drama sessions based on the Greek myth of Medusa is being held in the Gunpowder park by Enfield Arts Charity Tiger Monkey.
People are invited to bring a picnic to the event on Sunday 26 from 1 to 6pm.
The Lee Valley Regional Park also has a number of Site of Special Scientific Interest. Whilst exploring, visitors have been known to stumble across the rare and elusive Bittern hiding in the reeds, the beautiful Bee Orchid and the illusive Blue-tailed Damselfly.
