IF you go down to the park this Friday you could be in for a big surprise.

Because Broomfield Park in Aldermans Hill, Enfield will be full of teddy bears who have popped down for a quick picnic.

VIP bears, Rupert and Paddington are expected to attend, alongside important local humans.

There will be a bear parade, Crazy Bears musical entertainment, an inflatable slide, face painters, balloon modelers and even a Special Bear DJ.

Deputy leader, Cllr Michael Lavender, said: "I would urge anyone who has a young child and is looking for a fun time in a beautiful park to pick up a picnic and a bear and get down there - you'll love it."

The picnic is all part of a series of events which have been held over this week to celebrate National Parks Week.

The Lee Valley Regional Park Authority held a guided walk from a senior gardener at Myddelton House, Enfield on Saturday.

On the same day an arts event was held, with sculpture-building and youth drama sessions based on the Greek myth of Medusa is was held in Gunpowder Park by Enfield Arts Charity Tiger Monkey.

And it continues to run athletic coaching sessions for children aged between eight and five until Friday, at the Lee Valley Athletics Centre in Picketts Lock.

Enfield Council also ran a guided walk through its parks on Sunday.

Cllr Lavender said the council had come up with the picnic plan because it wanted to do something special this year.

It will take place between noon and 3pm and it is free to attend.

Drivers are advised that there is no parking nearby.
