NATURE was given a helping hand by young and old gardening enthusiasts yesterday when a batch of wild flowers were planted in Enfield Town Park.
The Friends of the Town Park have been encouraging gardeners in the past two months to care for seedlings and help them grow to plant near the games area in the park.
The meadow is part of an ambitious plan to provide a wildlife haven for the park.
Friends’ acting chairman Malcolm Sleath, said: “We had a gentleman who was 81 years old and we have had young children with their parents so it was a broad spectrum of people arriving to give a helping hand.
“What we were attempting to do was enrol parents to encourage their children to participate in this event.
“We are looking for ecologists to join the group to help teach the adults who in turn will teach their children.
“We thought it would be more efficient if we put the plants in as plugs rather than scatter seeds onto the ground.”
Sharon Hudson, from Wellington Road, Enfield, said: “I come to the park every day to walk the dog and you can see it is well used so its good to have this type of event for families.
“I’m here with my partner’s sons, Oli and Freddie, who have been helping to plant. It’s a fun activity, especially in the sunshine.”
Oli Till, 9, said: "We are not really gardeners yet but it was fun planting today and it's nice to make the park look good."
