AN EDMONTON wholesaler was fined and ordered to pay more than £5,000 after he was found to be selling unsafe toys.
Mohammed Sakir Miah of Aladdin's Cave Wholesalers Ltd, Silvermere Drive, pleaded guilty to several charges of failure to comply with safety regulations.
He was bought before magistrates by Enfield Council’s Trading Standards after a routine inspection.
Officers discovered a Sky Travel charger, YU-GI-OH toy and a sitting bear teddy were unsafe.
Cabinet member for the environment councillor Terry Neville said: “Enfield Council will act swiftly and strongly and vigorously prosecute any traders selling unsafe toys to protect our children.”
Cllr Neville was speaking after Miah was fined and ordered to pay over £5000 by magistrates for selling unsafe toys and electrical goods.
Mr Miah was fined £1000 for each charge (£3000 total) and costs of £2018.54
Cllr Neville added: “I shudder to think what could have happened if a child was playing with one of these unsafe toys. “Thanks to our trading standards diligence we have avoided what could have been a serious injury to a youngster.”
