ENFIELD Town's multi-storey car park will close for three weeks from while it is given a £1.7 million revamp.
The makeover of the Palace Gardens car park in Enfield includes better lighting, CCTV and security, and points for electric cars to charge. David Paine, speaking on behalf of the owners of Palace Gardens Shopping Centre, Standard Life Investments UK Shopping Centre Trust, said: “We believe that upgrading the car park will help to make Enfield an even better place to shop, providing a long-term boost to trade throughout the town centre." The facility will close from August 10 and shoppers will be given two hours' free parking in all town car parks owned by the council in a bid to boost trade during the closure.
Councillor Terry Neville, cabinet member for environment and street scene, said: "We want to help traders as much as we can."
Further attempts to ease potential parking woes include additional parking at the Enfield Grammar School playground as well as a bag carrying service.
The first floor of the car park will re-open on August 31, although the second floor will remain closed until September 21 and the third floor until October 12.
A full re-opening is planned for November 2.
The Palace Exchange car park will remain open throughout this period.
