CHART-topping acts including Fairport Convention and Mungo Jerry will perform in Enfield at the first London Twilight Festival next month.
The 5,000-capacity, two stage event on September 27 at Walker Cricket Ground in Waterfall Road, Southgate, is an attempt to provide a festival not primarily aimed at the young Other acts include Hazel O'Connor, Ed Tudor Pole and Ade Edmonson and his band The Bad Shepherds and there is also a second stage dedicated to local acts.
Promoter Chris Addison said: “I think Enfield has been lacking in something big and these are world class bands.
“They've got massive fan bases and most of them have had number ones. I thought lets really go for it and put Enfield on the map.”
Twilight will also have comedy acts between the bands provided by the Gag Club, a children's area and a section devoted to finding nascent rock stars with trial music lessons run by a Cockfosters music shop.
Mr Addison, 45, of Fothergill Drive, Winchmore Hill believes it is the first event of its kind on such a scale in the borough and he hopes it will be one of many.
He has been a promoter for two decades and runs the Hertford Corn Exchange live venue in Hertford.
This is not his first festival but it is his first big outdoor event with original acts.
He said his love of festivals and the contacts he has built up over the years made it the right time to do something big now The only non-signed band on the bill is psychedelic folk rock band Divided Opinions whose members are from Enfield and Barnet.
“The reason we've got them is because they're quite amazing,” Mr Addison said.
There are still a few slots left on the local bands stage and Mr Addison would like Enfield bands to get in touch.
