Few would imagine that lawn bowls links exotic Kuala Lumpur with the ancient hamlet of Winchmore Hill.
The Maylaysian capital hosted the first Europe versus Asia bowling match last year, and this year Winchmore Hill Bowls Club put their name forward to host the follow-up match in Europe.
After inspections from European Bowl Union members, the 73-year-old club in Radcliffe Road was chosen to host next weekend's prestigious competion.
With Bangkok lined up for the 2006 competition, and Portugal the year after, it is easy to see why committee member Bill Lorman is so excited.
He said: "It's our very own 2012 in Winchmore Hill. We were just delighted when the powers-that-be said 'yes.'"
While Jersey-born Murtle de la Haye and Ineke Nagtegaal from the Netherlands are not household names Mr Lorman promises an enthralling contest.
The Europeans will go head-to-head with the best players from Brunei, Hong Kong, the Phillipines and Maylasia.
Mr Lorman said: "The Asians won the first test and have got youth on their side but we are expecting a good battle."
Mr Lorman paid tribute to past president Terry Bond, 60, who died in May after working hard to secure the match in Winchmore Hill.
The four-day test match takes place between Thursday, July 28 and Sunday, July, 31, with play commencing at 9.30am.
Entry is £3 for a four-day pass, with souvenir programme.
