What a Pandora's Box Mrs Cullingford has opened regarding the Highway Code and the apparent disregard that many of our drivers have towards obeying the rules (Letters, July 20).
One of my favourite gripes concerns motorists parking on the wrong side of the road at night.
I find this particularly dangerous as vehicles subsequently pull out with an obstructed view and then blind and confuse oncoming traffic with their car headlights.
Code No 222 states: You must not park on the road at night facing the against the direction of the traffic flow unless in a recognised parking space. (Laws CUR reg 101 and RVLR reg 24) This is followed by Code 223: All vehicles (including trailers and skips or vehicles with projecting loads) must display parking lights when parked on a road or lay-by on a road with a speed limit greater than 30 mph (Law RVLR reg 24).
Quaint and meaningless as our rules may appear to some, they are there to protect lives. Your own.
