Olympic gold medallist Duncan Goodhew opened a learning centre in Southgate for dyslexic children.
Teachers at the Brightstar centre in Ashfield Parade has proved effective in improving the reading skills of children with the condition by using light sequences to stimulate areas of the brain.
Goodhew was asked to open the centre, earlier this month, as he is dyslexic and has successfully completed the BrightStar programme.
Paul Ayres, manager of Brightstar, said: "Schools are doing the best they can to tackle the problem, but dyslexic kids need specialist help. We're trying to shift the goalposts to give children with dyslexia a better chance of improving their literacy skills."
