There are numerous questions the managers of Chase Farm Hospital seem keen to avoid discussing.

One such question regards the choice of Barnet General over Chase Farm as the proposed site for core accident and emergency services.

Why is there such a predetermined presumption that Chase Farm's A&E department has to be the one to go?

If A&E did go to Barnet, the lack of current capacity there means the whole A&E area would have to be gutted and rebuilt. Barnet does not currently even have a corridor linking the casualty department to the main hospital.

This will be a huge cost, which, once again, will remove vital funds from the 'treatment purse' and give management and money counters the excuse to remove more front line staff and services.

A new A&E department at Chase Farm could be built as part of the much talked about (but as yet undelivered) brave new plans for the hospital.

Ideally of course we all know there should be three casualty departments, including the North Mid, but if one has to be downgraded, its Barnet that logic and finances dictate should be the one.
