In the run up to the General Election on May 6, the Enfield Independent is featuring profiles on the candidates vying for your votes.

Today we feature Nick De Bois, Conservative candidate for Enfield North.

Nick De Bois, 51, is the Conservative candidate for Enfield North in the May 6 General Election.

Nick is challenging for the Enfield North seat for the third time, having been unsuccessful in previous attempts in 2001 and 2005. In his words “there has been no other seat he wishes to contest”.

He was born in RAF Ely in Cambridgeshire, and studied business at Cambridgeshire College of Arts and Technology.

In 1984, he joined Rapier Design Ltd as an Exhibition Project manager, and has helped the company through financial difficulties to become a international exhibition and event management specialist.

The company has 75 employers and offices in the UK and near Washington DC, but Nick has promised to resign from the company if elected next month.

The father-of-four has pledged to put the interests of Enfield constituents first “even if that means disagreeing with my own party”.

He is opposed to cuts at Chase Farm Hospital, and believes changes should be made on clinical grounds meaning GPs and residents will have the major say over services they wish to keep at the hospital.

He has added a promise of no forced closures at the hospital in A&E and maternity under the Conservatives, if that is the wish of the people of Enfield.

Nick has also put on his agenda an end to the “soft-touch approach to criminals”, and is pitching himself as a political outsider who knows what it is like to raise a family, work for a living, and pay the bills.

About the election, Nick says: “It is a straight choice in Enfield North between Labour and the Conservatives, and this seat has always gone with the government of the day.

“So if you want a change of government then vote Conservative.”
