BOOKIES across Enfield will be displaying posters this Christmas showing images of wanted armed robbery suspects.
The Met has today launched the campaign, with CCTV images of suspects in armed raids on betting shops in Enfield and surrounding boroughs.
The campaign is being driven by the Flying Squad, and although initially planned just for Christmas, the posters may become a fixture in bookies if successful in helping catch criminals.
In the past six months, raids on betting shops in London have gone down by more than 40 per cent, thanks to a concerted police effort to tackle the problem with the help of the firms running the shops.
Detective Chief Inspector Ian Corner, from the Flying Squad, said he hopes this latest campaign will help to bring down the number of raids even further.
He said: “Armed robberies are extremely frightening experiences for the staff and customers. Hopefully these images will help track down and bring to justice the perpetrators of these calculated and planned offences, which put a number of people in fear of their lives.
"There are some excellent CCTV images out there and technology has really moved on. We want to make it clear to criminals that if you decide to rob one of these venues there's a good chance that your picture will appear on a wall somewhere."
