AN expansive new doctors' surgery was officially unveiled to the public today in Winchmore Hill.

Green Lanes Surgery has built a new home, moving from two cramped semi-detached houses to a new purpose built health centre next door to Tesco.

The surgery, which opened during the summer, was officially unveiled by Mayor of Enfield Jayne Buckland this afternoon.

Dr Sanjay Patel, one of the partners, the new building will vastly improve the services available to its 14,000 patients.

He said: “We had out-grown the old surgery, it was old fashioned, it didn't have a lift so patients had to struggle up the stairs, it had a lack of parking. Basically it was past its sell-by date.

“Now we are just getting out feet under the table but we are also looking for the future to provide more services to our patients.

“One of the biggest complaints we have had in the past is that you can't get a blood test, so now you can whereas before it was just offered to elderly patients.”

The surgery stands on the site of the former Peugeot car showroom, and the partners have invested £4.5m in bringing their dream of a new health centre to life.

It also has its own on site pharmacy, which is open 100 hours a week and is fitted out with a state of the art machine which delivers up medication, cutting out the chance of human error.

The surgery is fitted with 17 consultation rooms, and has nine fulltime doctors as well as two fulltime nurses.
