A SCHOOL that caters for children with emotional and behavioural problems celebrated Christmas with a new batch of colourful adventure equipment in their outdoor play area.
Games equipment included a traversing wall made from reinforced steel mesh, two football goals and cricket stumps.
The equipment also included two concrete outdoor table tennis tables, a wire mesh tennis net, a basketball hoop and two trikes, which are also being used in road safety lessons.
The equipment was bought with a central government grant of £20,000 from Enfield Council’s extended school’s budget.
Nigel Ellerby–Jones, head of the primary behaviour support service, said: “Play is a very important part of our work with children at this centre.
“The children who attend have social, emotional and behaviour difficulties and we aim to help them to return to mainstream school as soon as possible.
“Outside play has now become more focused and structured and this has been a positive addition to their overall progress. Children, staff and parents are delighted.
“Now the outdoor area is special and our pupils can feel valued and motivated.”
Councillor Del Goddard (Labour, Palmers Green), chair of the secondary pupil referral unit management committee, said: “This is a great example of the way we can support the centre and the children.
"The investment in this equipment is so worthwhile when we see children enjoying their education and regaining the opportunity to return to mainstream school.”
