A STUDENT at a Southgate theatre who hid a gun and ammunition in her bedroom has been jailed for five years.
Sarah Louise Jones, 21, was dramatically arrested in February at the Chickenshed Theatre, in Chase Side, after cops had raided her Hackney home.
Acting quickly on information passed to them, Hackney Police's firearm unit stormed the flat and found a revolver in a suitcase on top of a wardrobe in Jones' bedroom.
They also found ammunition stuffed inside a sock in the suitcase.
Following a four-day trial at Snaresbrook Crown Court, Jones was convicted of possession of a firearm and possession of ammunition and has been jailed for five years. She was told she will spend at least two-and-a-half years behind bars.
Detective Constable Gary Williams, who led the raid, said the conviction sent out a strong message to anyone who stores a weapon for someone else.
He said: “Sarah Jones had never been in trouble with the police before, but by agreeing to hide a lethal firearm for somebody else, she was partly responsible for any crimes committed with that weapon.
"She now has to spend Christmas, and the next few years in prison – a tragedy for both her and her family."
