A KNIFE-wielding thug from Enfield who terrorised train passengers has been jailed for four months.

Mark Punt pulled out a six-inch blade on passengers at White Hart Lane Station in December last year, grabbing one man by the collar and pointing the knife at him and another man.

The two men broke free from Punt after a struggle, but the 53-year-old then chased them along the platform before setting up another man stood at the station.

He then got on a train and continued to harass travellers.

Terrified passengers who had witnessed Punt's actions called police and the Southbury Road resident was arrested by British Transport Police when the train pulled in at Edmonton Green.

Punt, who was also caught with cocaine, claimed to officers he had carried a knife that day on the instructions of his mother.

He appeared at Wood Green Crown Court, on Wednesday, April 27, charged with possession of class A drugs, affray and possession of an offensive weapon. He was jailed for four months.

Sergeant Mark Walden, who led the investigation, thanked a woman who had called police from the train and helped them to apprehend Punt, and said: “This was a serious crime and thankfully no one was injured in what could have potentially been a far worse turn of events.

“I welcome the sentence handed down to Punt and hope it sends a clear and strong message that behaviour such as this will not be tolerated on the railways, neither by passengers, or British Transport Police.”
