People in Enfield will rightly wonder why, despite making it the centrepiece of his election campaign, Tory MP Mr de Bois has now come out against Chase Farm hospital.
Everything in Enfield Council’s report — a 24-hour A&E, consultant-led women’s and children’s services — he said he supported before the election. In fact, during the election he knocked on my door and told me that if the Conservatives were elected they would stop Chase Farm being downgraded. So why does he no longer support keeping Chase Farm as a fully functioning hospital?
Perhaps the reason he’s come out against Enfield Council’s plans is because he knows that the Tory Government has no intention of saving Chase Farm and never did.
By criticising Enfield Council, which has done nothing but stand up for local people, he is just trying to shift the blame for the failings of him and his colleagues in the Tory party, who promised one thing, but are now doing the exact opposite. It’s about time Mr de Bois started showing less concern about his own political future, and more about the future of our hospital.
