A CONCERT aimed at drawing teenagers away from gun and knife crime has been organised after a teenager was murdered in Edmonton.

The Young Soldiers group are holding the concert at the Tramways Christian Fellowship Centre, off Hertford Road, to urge young people to shun a life of crime.

The event comes a month after 15-year-old Negus McClean was stabbed to death by a gang of youths on bikes.

The Edmonton County pupil was laid to rest today, surrounded by friends, family, and fellow school pupils, as police continue to hunt the people responsible.

Pastor Pat Agdomar, who is one of the organisers, said: “We are sending a message of anti-knives and anti-guns because of what has happened.

“We need to keep our young people away from the atrocious beast of gun and knife crime.

“We know the work we do is not in vein, it comes from people who are real people and our message does get through to people.”

Young Solders have working around Enfield and north London for the last eight years, going into schools and speaking to people on the streets.

Each time, they are sending a message for teenagers to steer away from crime.

They organised a similar concert in 2008 after five young people were murdered in the borough in the space of six months.

Pastor Pat said it is sometimes his job to bury teenagers killed, and he said: “Years afterwards I see the family, and they never recover from something like this. When I sit with them, it is heartbreaking.”

The concert is starting at 6.30pm at the centre in Hertford Road, and is open to the public.

Nine teenagers arrested on suspicion of murdering Negus McClean remain on bail until mid-June, pending further enquiries by police.
