A CARIBBEAN organisation aims to extend its reach into the community as it hosts an advice evening this weekend.

Enfield Caribbean Association currently supports pensioners through drop-in sessions, exercise classes, day trips and a lunch club.

But now the group is hoping to expand, offering help to younger residents while trying to challenge misconceptions of Caribbean culture.

On Saturday afternoon, the centre will host a day of talks and advice sessions for families struggling in the economic climate, and for parents seeking help on their child's education.

Imani Quow, who volunteers at the centre in Fore Street, said: “This event is also aimed at re-introducing the community to the Enfield Caribbean Association and promoting the work we do and the work we hope to do in the future.

“We hope to encourage people – particularly those living in Enfield — to get involved, either through volunteering, becoming a member or attending events.

“As is the case with many charitable organisations at present, obtaining funding in order to continue with the work we do is a challenge, but we are hopeful that with the ongoing support of the community we may continue to serve the Caribbean community in Enfield.”

Saturday's event at Community House in Fore Street costs £5, but is free for under-16s and voluntary organisations.
